Unique in Germany is the presentation of more than 40 different Cologne associations and initiatives in the pavilions as well as on the stage on the Christmas fair at the Cologne Cathedral. Mayor Fritz Schramma and Ford CEO Bernhard Mattes had baken many cases of cookies for visitors of the Christmas market at the Cologne Cathedral and had distributed them among the visitors which had to pay a donation. This action was supported by the Cologne triumvirate 2005. The generated money of this fundraising campaign has been credited to the German Cancer Aid.

n 2003, the organisation �United for Africa� raised funds for African children in need during its closing event in one of the charity pavilions and on the stage of the Xmas Market at Cologne Cathedral. They baked special ginger breads shaped like the African continent which the local television VIPs helped sell to raise several hundred Euros.

By sending an SMS, the visitors of the Wheinachtsmarkt could "light" a lamp at the Christmas Tree at Cologne Christmas Market. With 140,000 lights they gained again a new world record in the Guiness Book of Records 2008. The proceeds of the action - about 150,000 euros, were for the RTL-charity project "We help children".

For 10 years, Pride Christmas has been the motto of homosexuals, lesbians and friends during Christmas Time at the Xmas Market at Cologne Cathedral. On the first Monday in December many visitors came to take part in the charity event in front of the stage. They saw a diversified performance with many known artists on the stage in front of the impressive scenery of Cologne Cathedral. Following their performance, the VIPs signed blue Christmas tree balls to sell them in favour of the German AIDS Foundation.

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Xmas Market at Cologne Cathedral the organisers offered a 10 metres long Christmas stollen. In return for a donation, a piece of the stollen was handed out to the visitors. All proceedings were credited to ?Kleine Hände e.V.? (Small Hands inc.), an organisation that supports families in financial distress.

Hunger? Only 4,291 Kilometers from here? was a slogan on a poster quite reminiscent of a fast food chain. Jürgen Becker, Didi Jünemann and Herbert Feuerstein used this poster as a form of protest to get attention for the project and to raise donations at the Xmas market at Cologne Cathedral.
